Hannah has inspired me in many different ways over the last 5 yrs.
1st- she wrote out the Torah for me for a wedding gifts
- that inspired me to make a copy of the NT for myself and my future family.
2nd- more recently she has been reading the one year bible with group of women in our church. They simply get together on Monday nights and sit in silence and read the bible to themselves for around 2 hrs. they then write out the observations (and or questions) then they look for application to their individual lives.
This has been very fruitful for Hannah. She has invited other people (friends) to read along with the group. They keep in touch through e-mail and phone calls to spur each other on in this long journey through the WordS of God.
I have decided to crash their party and buck the norm and be a guy in the group (I don't think I am actually going to go to the Womens group on Monday, to much estragene for my liking.) However, I have been inspired to create a Family Meyer FL./Greenberg NJ Bible One Year Blog.
For those who are wondering what the heck is BLOG? Well, good question. A blog is an internet journal of sorts that is open to the public. We can all post questions and comments about the Bible Passage then we can all learn from each other and spur each other on in good deeds for God glory.
I will be forwarding you all the site were you can post and publish from. You will need a password that will be forthcoming. You are all invited on this journey .

Crazy. How God gave Joe "Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, as his wife" This is the same guy Potiphera who had him tossed in jail. What do you guys think of that. How does that apply to our lives today. I see it as evidence that God can be trusted to get my back.
Asher says hello and he can't wait to post his comments in here soon:-) My observation goes back to Genesis 20 (This was a few days ago because I was a little behind in my reading) but anyways in Genesis 20:1-6 when King Abimelech tells God he is innocent of sin with Sarah, and God informs Abimilech that the only reason why is because God himself prevented Abimelech from sinning. So I think it kind of goes into the whole free will thing. We like to pat ourselves on the back when we do something good when insstead we should be thanking God when we don't sin.
I"m on
let ask the Lord to show us Himself in the Scriptures.
Luke 24:27 Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things written about Himself in all the scriptures. (Net Bible)
Trying again
This thing is not letting me on
Okay, this time it worked
This is nana1 trying to get boppa 1 to work
After taking another look at the passage about Joseph marrying Potiphera's daughter, I am not so sure that it is the same Potiphera that had him put in prison. The Potiphera that had Joseph put in jail was an official in Pharoahs service and captain of the guard. The other Potiphera was a priest in the Egyptian cult. JUST THOUGHT I should correct myself.
Why was it unlawful and bad for Egyptians to eat with the Hebrews during the time of Joseph? I thought that was interesting..somewhere it turned around
I was re-reading the explanation of the parable of the weeds by Jesus in Matthew 13:36... and it stuck me that Jesus says "the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom."v38 So according apparently in Jesus' mind (His mind= perfect clarity and truth) I am one of his seeds that he has placed in the world (i.e field). A seed has potential to yield life and produce. So I guess my question to all of you is what exactly is our response to this parable? Seeds traditionally just sit in the ground and the elements (the right ones at least) cause it to grow. So are we supposed to just sit still? I am not sure if these questions make total sense. Give me your feedback .
Sounds good Bali..My deep thinking husband:-)I am not sure what that parable means literally for our lives. It's a good thought though and something to ponder on:-) What has stuck out to me this week is how Josephs life seemed so messy & yet God took all the situations and made them work to His glory..but I think that is because Joseph was seeking God. Even when His brothers intended death on Joseph God used their BAD intentions and selfish actions to bring Joseph to a different place. Obviously we won't all rule as 2nd in command of a country if we follow God, but I do think it is a good reminder for all of us right now in all of our craziness of life that God is over seeing everything even if it doesn't APPEAR that way. Thank goodness for that reality, right!
Hannah it is interesting to see how God's knowledge of future events (the drought and resulting famine) and Josephs diligence in seeking God (i.e. his free choice to choose obedience to God and God's righteous requirements. Not sleeping with Poti's wife) they both worked hand and hand to protect God's covenant people and bring honor and reverence to God's person-hood (i.e His name).
So our choices we make to follow and obey and God providence will at times bring terrible suffering to us and will hopefully bring honor to God and blessing to us and others around us
It's interesting how this last week all the proverbs and then Matthew 19 speak on adultery, divorce, and marriage. Especially Matthew 19. For the first time when reading this something stuck out to me. When Jesus said men should not divorce their wives unless they are unfaithful the disciples remarked "well then it's better not to get married at all". Perhaps I am sorely mistaken in my interpretation of this, but it appears that divorce must have been a happening thing, or a high option for men back then for Jesus' own disciples to think marriage was so hard that it would be impossible to not divorce w/out infidelity. Which is a sad thing, but also all through those first Proverbs (I believe chapter 5) tells a man that in using WISDOM he would follow under the instruction of his teachers & parents and would remain faithful to the wife of his youth (not adulterous) and that he would not be tempted by other woman. It's obvious this has and is an ongoing battle for men, and according to JESUS only by God's Help can a marriage work (Matt 19). IF I am interpreting correctly..which leads me to the point that we need Jesus to protect every sacred and important part of our lives.
Yeah bear I re-read the Matt 19 passage:
"If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry."
11Jesus replied, "Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."
When I ever I read something that really really strikes e as a 'new' thought or insight into Scripture I
1st ask is this s response to a question (in this czase the pharasees where testing Jesus)
2nd I ask the question.
Who is giving the answer?
In this case Jesus was. Who was Jesus a eunuch he chose not to marry. So I think some of the disciples where called by God to live similar lifestyle as Jesus. As a eunuch.
Your point is very good my dear. Marriage is to be safeguarded because in the same way being called to not marry is a gift from the Almighty, so too is marriage a gift form the Almighty. I know God is going to ask for an account of how I (we) used the gifts He has given. Lets be sure to look to Him for wisdom on how to use the gift of Marriage to honor Him.
I am just reading through Exodus on the Israelites constant reaction to testing, and every time it never once reads that they turned to God willingly, but every time they turned to Moses and complained. It just amazes me how common people when tested or going through something couldn't figure out on their own how to turn to the God who split a sea open for them to walk through. I wonder what areas of my life I am turning to people instead of God, or how often I depend on the wisdom and fleating power of humans instead of God for my provisions.
If anyone is keeping up with the reading, I thought it was interesting how in Leviticus the blood had to be put on the right hand, right toe, and right ear lobe and that the priest would put oil over the head and THEN a person would be clean..and they had to take in a scarlet thread, cedar wood & Hyssop and the process atonement would be completed..anyways, I was just wondering what kind of wood was common for crucifixion because I know Jesus is at the right hand of God, and that at His crucifixion they gave him gall on hyssop, and his blood made our atonement..so I was wondering it it was all linked somehow..JUST CURIOUS!
Just reading in Numbers & the end of Leviticus how God made a point to tell the people that the feasts and special events of the year were to be consecraed unto Him & for Him, and I think that for me honestly when I look at holidays I have definitely got caught up in the tradtions and hype and have not really meditated on how they are appointed times for me to reflect on what God has done and Who God is in my life. (Just my thought for the day)
